Black Bean Boat Burgers!

Black Bean Burger on a Boat

On board the boat we eat a lot of black beans! They are a great source of protein, sustainable and cheap!

This evening we made gluten free black bean burgers on gluten free potato buns, primarily because I had these delicious pickles waiting to have a reason to be enjoyed.

Black Bean Burger

Sometimes it’s difficult to know what to eat, as we have one mate allergic to wheat, and no refrigerator. This ensures that we have to put on our creative caps every night before prepping a meal!

I will post the recipe amounts soon, but these are the ingredients for now!

Ingredients:

Potato Buns:

I mix all the ingredients in a bowl and then flatten them into buns and fry them in the pan with oil. I will cook these before cooking the burgers.

  • Potato Flakes
  • Oat flour
  • Flax seed eggs
  • Garlic Powder
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Oil

Burgers:

I blend up the black beans in a food processor, then mix in all the ingredients together in a bowl. I also blend the oats first to make oat flour, it’s a great sub for wheat flour! Once everything is blended I make patties and fry it in oil on the pan.  I also cook and caramelize the onions at the same time to keep them hot!

  • Can of black beans
  • Flax seed eggs (or eggs)
  • Oat flour
  • Hickory Sauce
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Garlic powder and Cajun Spice

Pickles, caramelized onions, and cheddar cheese as toppings.

These bean burgers are a great alternative to using cow meat, you don’t need a fridge, it’s cheaper, and it’s nicer for the cow. Just add your savory sauce of choice to make it taste like your favourite burger and you are good to go!

I personally enjoy hickory.
